Porterhouse Temple Bar, opened in 1996 as Dublin's first pub brewery, probably had the most extensive beer list that I came across during my time in Dublin and is one of the few places that I hit twice. The first time, I grabbed a quick Porterhouse Oyster Stout, while killing some time before my tour of the Jameson Distillery. The second time, I stayed a bit longer and had a flight of their Red Ale, An Brainblasta Strong Ale, and Hop Head Pale Ale.
The most memorable was the Red Ale. The head was exceedingly creamy and really stood out in my mind. Once I, for lack of a better word, penetrated the heavy head, the beer had a fruity mouth and caramel tones. Second favorite goes to the Hop Head. This aromatic bitter pale ale, made with Centennial and Cascade hops, had a citrusy, but malty flavor. The mouthfeel was rich and oily.
